Hello Kindergarten Families, This week our letter was Tt! We realized that so many words start with t including toilet. October has a t in the middle and Tuesday has a capital T at the very beginning! We started learning about Community Helpers this week.  Our students loved telling the class about a parent or family member who helps our community!  We had a special visit to end the week. Sergeant Wig came to talk to us about Halloween safety and the role of police officers! Thank you for being a Community Helper, Sergeant Wig! Every Wednesday when we go to the Library, we have a chance to explore the Maker Space after we choose our new books.  Mrs. Haydu, our Librarian, does an incredible job of setting up different stations for Ramsay students to enjoy.  Here is a glimpse at the fun we had this week!

Hello Kindergarten families, We have been working hard and learning a lot in K!   Our letter of the week was S, so we spent much of our week hissing like ssssssnakes! See if your child can find some things around your house that start with S! We went on our first community walk this week. We went up to the community gardens and talked about signs of fall. Thank you to our volunteers for braving the cold!  Community walks are a monthly event that takes place rain or shine. If you would like to join us on a walk at some point this year, please contact the office to begin the volunteer clearance process.  We would love to have you! Next week we will have a very special guest in Kindergarten! Sergeant Chris Wig (Luna's dad) will be coming to see us on Thursday morning to talk about Halloween safety. We will also have the opportunity to go outside and see his police car!   Halloween is coming up quickly!  Please do not send candy for your child to hand out ...

Hello Kindergarten Families, Time is flying in K!  Our students are settling into our routine. Our daily visual schedule helps keep everyone on track. Students are starting to take responsibility for moving the magnet to the next activity because Mrs. Hrycan is very forgetful!  Our days fly by so quickly, but we always make time for Centres because, as Mr. Rogers said, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning."  We start our day with Learning Centres that are literacy and numeracy based and end our day with the power of imaginative play! Can you spot your child doing some serious learning?  Wednesdays are Library days! Please remind your child to put his or her book in their backpack Tuesday night or Wednesday morning!  On Fridays, we plan to start taking our learning outdoors, beginning with our community walk next week! Please dress your child for the weather and make sure all outdoor ...

Hello Kindergarten Families, Can you guess our letter of the week?  Check out our Google classroom for links to a fun Aa song and an instructional video about letter formation! We practiced printing our big A and small a with our magic fingers on the carpet and on our friend's back before we tried using our pencil to make it again.   We have also been working on phonics skills such as repeating back rhyming words ("Hat, cat. Now you try!") and segmenting and blending words.  The next time you're riding in the car, try saying simple words out loud and helping your child figure out what sound they start with!  Our class especially likes words that start with the ssssss snake sound. We've talked a bit about why letters are important and worked together to figure out if we were holding a letter, a word, or a sentence for a class anchor chart. Also, now that it's October, we've begun to get excited about Halloween! Mrs. Haydu carved two pumpkins that we get to...
