Hello Kindergarten Families, It was so lovely to have most of students back at school this week! Thank you for keeping your child at home if they are unwell.  Hopefully this means we all have strong immune systems in time for the holidays! This week we have been learning all about the letter Pp. One of our favourite activities is making the letter with our bodies! We also like using our magic finger to print the letter on a friend's back. Check out our Google Classroom for some Pp resources if you are interested!  Our students are also starting to realize that we can sound out some words using the letter sounds we have learned so far. It's very exciting! We have also continued stretching our brains to come up with new ways to sort objects, although sorting by colour is always a hit! We have wrapped up our sorting unit and will be moving on to patterns next week. Finally, we have opened two new Centres this week! The morning class has been using the Smartboard for educat...

Hello Kindergarten Families, Our Kindergarten students seem to be enjoying our new AM and PM classes! It was lovely to have the whole group together for our community walk today. Moving forward, Fridays will be our Music days. The AM group will be out of the room for 45 minutes for Music and then they will switch with the PM group.  There will be plenty of space for the classroom group to play! We have been learning all about the letter Mm this week! Mountains, marshmallows, and monkeys were on our minds. We used our bodies to form big M and little m to get to know the shapes that make the letters.  Every week, students have the chance to print the letter, draw pictures that start with it, and stamp their page with stamps starting with our letter.  If you have any stamps lying around unused, Kindergarten would love to put them to work!  Please consider adding them to our class collection! Thank you to the parents who joined our community walk today! We did a ne...

Hello Kindergarten Families,  This week in Kindergarten we talked about Remembrance Day, and learned a new poem out poppies. As a class we created a wreath that was used in Thursday's assembly. We talked about the word "peace" and students shared some things that bring them peace. Doing puzzles, playing with friends, drawing and colouring were some of the peaceful things that students shared.  On Monday, students continued to practice their sorting skills, and this time we used emojis! We talked about how we can sort by emotions, whether or not they have eyebrows, or by the "tears" on the emojis. We also began talking about "more and less" and talked about the importance of counting one by one. On Wednesday, students explored some new centers during Maker Space. The Lego wall was a huge hit, and students also loved using water colour paint to paint pictures.  Thursday we did our first guided drawing of a field of poppies. Everyone did such an awesome ...

Hello Kindergarten Families, We had a happy Halloween on Monday!  Students wore costumes and paraded around the school. They also had the option of eating a jack-o-lantern peach cup at snack!  In Science we saw what would happen if we mixed baking soda, vinegar, and food colouring together inside of our pumpkin. What a mess! Overall it was a wonderful day. In Math we have been learning about different ways to sort items.  We can sort by size, shape, type of item, colour, or we can make our own sorting rules!  This skill is fun to practice at home with different materials like buttons, cutlery out of the dishwasher, or toys! The pictures below are from our crayon sort. Wednesday brought so much snow!  Our Kindergarten students are learning to remove their boots before coming upstairs.  Please make sure your child's boots, gloves, hats, coats, and other winter gear are all clearly labeled with your child's name!   Upcoming dates: Nov. 11- Reme...
